This is why I dislike vinyl car bras

Kinja'd!!!

This is the hood of my 1998 Subaru Legacy. It had the official Subaru vinyl car bra thing installed from 1998 until I took possession of it in 2012. You can see the paint under the bra is a very different color, having not been sunbleached, and now it's starting to crack and craze.

I'm not sure what, if anything, I should do about it.

Go bra shopping?

I've always thought once it's been bra'ed you have to keep it bra'ed.

Best thing about working at a quick lube place right out of highschool?

"Ma'am, do you mind if I take off your bra?"

Eh, if I'm gonna spend $80 on something for my car, it's gonna be poly swaybar endlinks, not a bra.

Oh don't get me wrong I'd never encourage anybody to put one of those things on a car, I hate them. As you can see the paint ends up screwed anyhow so there's really no benefit.

You can kind of see in the picture that the color coat is starting to flake off. I'd probably have to sand it down to the primer and re-spray it for it to look really good. I'd rather just replace the hood with one from a junkyard. Maybe I can find one without the fake hood scoop.

(Don't worry, I'll Sawzall the fake hood scoop off this one and ship it to you, Monkey.)

According to /DRIVE CLEAN, they are supposed to be replaced every 5 years. Also, the OEM ones suck because they only cover part of the hood.

your hood is oxidized, hit it with some compound and polish using something like a porter cable 7424 XP at a minimum, and it should match better.
